The British Museum

The British Museum is where it sounds like it should be. That's right. In England. London, to be exact. Google Maps has taken the British Museum and created a "walkable" experience for everyone to experience its collections. Just how you would use Street Maps, a person can click the area around them to get closer to the collections they want to see. They can also skip to different exhibits by scrolling the pictures of the exhibits instead of putting all the wear into the good walking shoes.

National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea

The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Korea also partnered with Google Maps to make their exhibits open to the world public. As of Spring 2024, The MMCA has 8 museums available for virtual tours all without a passport! Just as you would use Google Maps, you will click through the space to get to exhibits you want to see. You can also skip to exhibits you want to see by scrolling through the pictures below the virtual section.

The National Gallery

The National Gallery is in London, England. Their virtual tours offer select pieces in a virtual space where you can either "walk" along the space to see the paintings or find by artist by gallery menu. You also have the option to find out more of the history of the art piece by clicking the art. The only time it is OK to "touch" the painting.

The Louve

The Louvre is a well known and well loved museum in Paris, France. The museum created their own virtual experience of special exhibits by creating several virtual spaces. By clicking along the area, you can enjoy the art pieces and learn more about them.

As of Summer of 2024, if you are looking at "The Advent of the Artist", please know that clicking the area will not work and you will have to use arrow keys.

Des Moines Arts Center

Our local art center has gone virtual! If you haven't had time to see The Des Moines Art Center, don't forget to make a stop in virtually. You can "walk" through the gallery while learning about the pieces, about the center, about Iowa art, as well as their permanent collections. One neat thing about this virtual gallery is that you can virtually measure how big pieces are!
