Asian American Pacific Islander Haritage Month: Home

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is celebrated in May. The celebratory month encompasses all of the Asian continent and the Pacific islands, Micronesia, and Polynesia. In 1977 and 1978, Congress introduced a resolution for the first ten days of May as Pacific/ Asian American Heritage week. In both years, it didn't pass. That same year, a resolution that a President should declare that the first seven days to be "Asian/Pacific American Heritage Week". Then President Jimmy Carter declared the first week of May 1979. This lasted until 1990 when Congress authorized that the President may issue a proclamation changing the week to a month celebration. This yearly declaration lasted currently until 2025.
